University of Johannesburg W&RSETA Bursary South Africa; The UJ Department of Marketing Management is part of the Universities College of Business and Economics – one of 8 faculties at the institution. The UJ Department of Marketing Management offers a range of undergraduate degrees and diplomas, postgraduate degrees and short courses, in the field of Marketing and Retail.

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) is a public organisation, formed to encourage skill development in the Wholesale and Retail sector by way of grants, bursaries, training and learnerships.

ABOUT THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & SELECTION

The University of Johannesburg, partnered with the W&RSETA is inviting postgraduate students to apply for funding, for the 2022 academic year.

The “W&R SETA Leadership Chair: Gauteng Masters and Doctoral bursary” is open to students pursuing Master’s or PhD studies at the University of Johannesburg, preferably with these research areas:

Retail Business Management
Retail Marketing
Wholesale and Retail
Wholesale Business Development

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, as well as cover for data collection and language editing.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Master’s degree applicants:

You must be a South African citizen OR a South African permanent resident
You must have completed an Honours degree in one of these fields: Marketing or Retail
You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Research Methodology on NQF level 8
You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%
You must be enrolled or intend on studying towards a Master’s degree at the University of Johannesburg in 2022
You must have an approved Master’s or PhD proposal with a focus on the preference areas
You must be passionate about Retail

PhD degree applicants:

You must have completed a Master’s degree in one of these subject fields: Marketing or Retail
You must have achieved a minimum result of 65% for your Master’s degree
You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Research Methodology on NQF level 8
You must be enrolled or intend on studying towards a PhD degree at the University of Johannesburg in 2022
You must have an approved Master’s or PhD proposal with a focus on the preference areas
You must be passionate about Retail

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY

New Enrolments:
Applications must be submitted online via the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Marketing Management website: University of Johannesburg W&RSETA Bursary Application 2022. Applicants must follow the full application procedure and submit the required documents before the closing date.

If the Department Research and Ethics Committee (DREC) approves your proposal, please email wrsetagauteng@gmail.com – they will then contact you with a list of supporting documents required to complete your application.
Current Masters and PhD students:
Download and complete the University of Johannesburg W&RSETA Bursary Application Form 2022 (.pdf)

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

ID document or passport (certified copy)
Full official academic records, with results of all levels of tertiary study (only academic records with marks, no certificates)
Curriculum Vitae, with the following details: field of study, qualifications, employment history, awards received and achievements, contactable references
Biographical sketch of information not already disclosed in the application form, including; brief description of your research interest, awards received and achievements, membership of national and international scientific committees, and other tangible recognition
Short motivational letter explaining why you should be awarded the bursary, as well as your study commitment or outputs for 2022 (maximum one A4 page, Arial font, font size 11)
Letter of reference regarding your academic performance
Letter from your UJ supervisor, including; overview of the study, progress with your studies, anticipated date of submission of dissertation/ thesis, your suitability for the bursary
Letter from your UJ supervisor, providing your formal registration for the Masters/ Doctoral qualification at UJ

Current Master’s/ Ph.D students: 31 October 2021.
New Master’s/PhD Enrolments: 31 October 2022.
