ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Canon Collins Trust is inviting students from South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, to apply for scholarship funding, for distance learning at the University of London.

The Scholarship covers studies towards a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, and/or the Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of London, via distance learning.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

4 scholarships will be awarded by the University of London International Programmes and will cover the following expenses: full tuition fees and examination entry fees.

Students can start at any level and are NOT required to complete the entire program (e.g. applicants may start at the Postgraduate Certificate level and work their way to the LLM, or they can stop after completing the PG Certificate). Students who have completed an undergraduate degree can start at the LLM level, without completing the PG Certificate and Diploma).

Scholars must complete their studies within 1 to 5 years, with a minimum of 2 modules to be completed per year. Scholars will be able to continue the course if they maintain satisfactory progress and academic reports. Applicants can read the Postgraduate programs in Laws prospectus here.

MORE ABOUT THE CANON COLLINS TRUST UNIVERSITY OF LONDON SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – SELECTION

Scholars will be selected by the University of London International Programmes and the Canon Collins Trust. Candidates will receive the final outcome of their application by August 2022 (please do not email to follow up on your application).

Scholars will be selected based on academic merit, work experience, financial need, and the potential to positively contribute to the future of southern Africa. Applicants will be assessed on the information supplied in their application, including:

Academic Record and References: completed an undergraduate degree in any field, if apply for LLM studies, and excellent references.
Work Experience: preferably candidates should demonstrable continuity between their current
profession, career ambitions, and this field of study.
Relevance: candidates should be able to explain why this course is in line with their ambitions to make a difference in their sector. Applicants must clearly state their intended area of
specialization.
Leadership Competencies: applicants must be able to demonstrate how they have developed their leadership skills in the workplace, academia, or in their personal life.
Commitment to Country/Community: preferably candidates should show a desire to be part of and to contribute to the future prosperity of southern Africa.
Application: candidates should demonstrate a good command of the English language, provide all information required in the application and submit their application and documents on time.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CANON COLLINS TRUST UNIVERSITY OF LONDON SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
General requirements:

You must be a national or have refugee status in South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, or Zimbabwe
You must reside in one of the above countries
You must have completed the necessary qualifications for admission to the program
You must be currently employed (full time or part-time)
You must be able to commit to 10 hours of study per week (minimum)

Note: applicants do NOT have to be admitted to the program before applying for the scholarship, but applicants will be required to apply for admission if they are selected for a scholarship. Apply for admission here.

Requirements for the LLM entry point – you must have 1 of these:

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) qualification with second-class honors from the University of London
Second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with at least half the units being law-related subjects
Passed the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) of England and Wales or the Qualifying Exam of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority of England and a second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Completed the Common Professional Examination or Graduate Diploma in Law and a second-class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in Wales, England, or equivalent in another country

Requirements for the PGDip entry point – you must have 1 of these:

Second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent from the University of London or any other acceptable institution
Master’s Degree

Requirements for the PGCert – you must have 1 of these:

Bachelor’s Degree from the University of London or any acceptable institution
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (e.g. banking, accounting, insurance, or finance)

English language requirements:
During the program, the candidate will be required to have a strong command of the English language. Candidates must have achieved 1 of the following within the past 3 years:

(IELTS) International English Language Testing System with an overall score of 6.5 and 6 on the written test (minimum scores)
(TOEFL) Test of English as a Foreign Language with an overall score of 92 (with 22 in the Reading and Writing sub-tests) and 20 in the Speaking and Listening sub-tests (minimum requirements)
Pearson Test of English (Academic) with an overall score of 59 and 59 in both Writing and Reading elements and a 54 in Listening and Speaking elements (minimum scores)
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (with a minimum of grade C)
Duolingo: must achieve an overall score of 120 or more

Computer requirements:
The Postgraduate Laws programs offer provisions that are fully electronic. Candidates must have full and excellent internet access, however, should this not be the case, the candidate can make a case with the program director who can offer printed copies of the basic learning materials.
