ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER – SBF

SBF High School Scholarship South Africa | Students For A Better Future is a high school scholarship programme formed and funded by the Andreas and Susan Struengmann Foundation, established in 2007. The Foundation was formed with the aim of sponsoring educational initiatives in the Western Cape. The Foundation has also launched the Sue Struengmann Initiative at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and also funds the Disa Primary School in Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay.

The vision of the Andreas and Susan Struengmann Foundation is to develop well-rounded and goal-oriented individuals who will contribute positively to the future of South Africa and become citizens of the world.

ABOUT THE SBF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Students For A Better Future (SBF) is inviting students in Cape Town, to apply for their high school scholarship for the 2024 academic year. The scholarship is open to students who are currently in Grade 6 (entering Grade 8 in 2024), who demonstrate strong academics and are in financial need.

Students will be placed in SBF partner High Schools in the Cape Town Metropole, including; SACS (South African College), Springfield Convent, St George’s Grammar, Westerford, Camps Bay High, Groote Schuur High, Bergvliet High, Herschel Girls High, Rustenberg Girls High, Rondebosch Boys High and Wynberg Boys High.

MORE ABOUT THE SBF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – SELECTION PROCESS

The High School scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, uniform allowance, book allowance, stationery allowance, sports equipment and school trips allowance. Scholars will receive ongoing psychosocial and academic support, as part of the holistic scholarship programme.

Students may also receive funding for transport costs and may be placed in boarding houses at certain schools.

After completing high school, scholars will be able to join the SBF Post-Secondary Programme, which may provide: Financial Support, One-on-one Coaching, Psychosocial Support And Mentorship, Academic Coaching, Strategic Coaching With Partners And Stakeholders and Alumni Programme. Scholars must achieve a minimum overall average of 65% in Matric to apply for post-secondary funding.

Applicants should take note of the stages of the scholarship process:

  • Step 1: applications are submitted between 1 July and 31 August 2022
  • Step 2: applicants receive feedback on 16 September 2022
  • Step 3: academic testing is conducted on 1 October 2022
  • Step 4: online testing is conducted on 10 October 2022
  • Step 5: family interviews are held in November 2022
  • Step 6: offers are submitted to successful candidates in February 2022

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SBF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to meet all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be in Grade 6 in 2022
  • You must be entering Grade 8 in 2024
  • You must have been born in 2010 (between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2010)
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 5 final exams
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics in Grade 5 final exams
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for English in Grade 5 final exams
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 6 term 2 assessments/ report
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics in Grade 6 term 2 assessments/ report
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for English in Grade 6 term 2 assessments/ report
  • You must reside in Cape Town, Western Cape, within a 25 kilometres radius of the SBF Newlands Office (Letterstedt House Newlands on Main, Newlands)
  • You must be in financial need, with a household income of NOT more than R17 000 (if there is 1 child in the household), R20 000 (if there is 2 children in the household), R23 000 (if there are 3 or more children in the household)

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SBF HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Applications must be submitted online at; SBF High School Scholarship Application
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • Birth Certificate (certified copy)
  • Study visa, if not a South African citizen (certified copy)
  • Grade 5 final report
  • Grade 6 term 1 report
  • Parents or guardians’ ID documents (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians visa or proof of residency, if not a South African citizen (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (most recent payslips or employment letter if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ affidavit if self-employed affidavit/ proof of SASSA grant or pension if applicable)
  • Essay, answering the following: If you were granted 3 wishes, what would they be and why? (350 words)
