Students who have registered for the NSFAS scheme, who have had their applications approved, and who therefore qualify to receive allowances directly from NSFAS will receive cash funds in their NSFAS Wallets. If you have passed through the registration process, and you are sure that your application has been approved, this is where you find out how to check your balance/statement in your NSFAS account to see that you have received funds from the programme.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme provides students with an NSFAS wallet which the scheme funds directly. This wallet allows students at certain tertiary institutions, to withdraw cash or spend it at any NSFAS registered merchant.

We do not expect you to lose both your phone number and email address which are the key instruments of accessing your NSFAS account, but on the rare occasion that it actually does happen; that is you actually have forgotten your MyNSFAS login details, and at the same time lost your cell phone, there is still a last resort.

You can get back your account by submitting a certified affidavit, as well as a letter requesting that your email and cell phone number be updated. You are required to provide the old phone number as well as the new one, and that applies to your email as well. The affidavit should be sent to uds@nsfas.org.za.

After manually reviewing your request, the NSFAS authorities will respond via the new email. This procedure may take some time.

Conclusion:

You are encouraged to take care of your NSFAS details so that you do not have to go through the stress of updating your details via an affidavit. While checking your NSFAS statement/account balance, please ensure that your application has been approved first. if you are unable to check the balance then it probably means that your application has not been approved. If your application has not been approved then you may need to review your details and file an appeal. We have a post on the procedure.
