List of courses funded by Nsfas 2023 | Nsfas is a Fully subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South Africans. As of the 2021 academic year, NSFAS will no longer provide funding for postgraduate courses.

This includes postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, honors degrees, masters, and Ph.D. degrees. Students who were funded in 2020 for any of the 2020 NSFAS-funded postgraduate qualifications will be granted continued funding in 2021 for the completion of the course.

Prospective Students who have been waiting to apply to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will now have access to apply online via the NSFAS official website. Application for the 2023-2024 academic year is currently open and qualified applicants are invited to apply within the application cycle since there wouldn’t be any late applications. Students who are eligible for funding from NSFAS (financial eligibility) and who obtain a firm place to study in an approved program at a public institution are encouraged to apply to institutions through their application processes for a study place.

NSFAS will not provide funding to students who want to enroll in any of these courses. They may, however, submit a request for money from other sources. These sources include student loans from South African banks and Fundi Educational Loans. Fundi specializes in educational loans to help students cover their tuition fees and any other expenses involved during studying.

Only first undergraduate qualifications are funded by NSFAS which includes full-time and online courses offered by public universities or TVET colleges.

Students need to meet the following criteria to qualify for NSFAS:

 

University students

  1. Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Sassa grant beneficiaries immediately qualify.
  3. Must be applying or accepted at a university
  4. Persons living with a disability should have a combined household income of R600 000 or less per annum.
  5. Should have a combined household income below R350 000 per year.

TVET Colleges

  1. Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Must be registered or intending to register on a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 program at a TVET College.
  3. Should have a combined household income below R350 000 per year.
  4. Persons living with a disability should have a combined household income of R600 000 or less per annum.
  5. Returning students must demonstrate proven and accepted academic performance in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines.
  6. Must not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded.

The bursary covers registration fees, tuition, accommodation, transport, learning materials allowance, and living expense allowances.
