Kenneth Okonkwo (born November 6, 1968) is a Nigerian actor, popularly known for his role in the movie Living in Bondage. as MR Andy. He is also a Lawyer and a Politician in his country Nigeria.

Early life

Okonkwo was born in Nsukka Enugu State.

Personal life

His first marriage was in the year 2000, to Ogechi Ezekiel, the only daughter of Pastor Ezekiel, General Overseer of Christian Pentecostal Mission International. Kenneth Okonkwo’s union to Ogechi lasted barely two years and it ended in 2002. The crashed marriage produced a son. News of the Kenneth Okonkwo divorce shook the movie industry as Kenneth had turned born again even before they got married. However, Kenneth Okonkwo found love again and re-married in 2007 to his present wife, Ifeoma. The couple was married for nine years before they finally welcomed their first child together at the University of Maryland, St. Joseph Medical Centre in the United States of America, on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

His first marriage with Ogechi Ezekiel produced a son. For the second marriage, Kenneth Okonkwo and his wife Ifeoma Okonkwo had their first child on 7th May 2016.

 

Career

In 2013 he won the African Movie Academy Award on a Special Recognition of Pillars of Nollywood. 2015 he was given a special recognition award by the organisers of the City People Entertainment Awards for his contribution to the growth of entertainment in Nigeria

Nollywood actor,  Okonkwo, has declared his intention to run for Governor of Enugu State at the next general election. The 52-year-old actor also revealed that he will be contesting on the platform of the All People’s Congress. He said the immediate past governor of the State, Sullivan Chime, has endorsed his bid.

He disclosed this on his official Instagram account on Monday morning.

“I just declared my intention to contest for the Governorship candidate of APC in Enugu State. It was heart warming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory,” he wrote.

Speaking on the motivation behind his political ambition, the actor who ho started his acting career in 1991 said, “It’s time for Nollywood to produce an Executive to fulfil our Nollywood dreams. The entire APC structure attended the declaration. God is awesome.”

If Kenneth wins the election, he will join fellow actor, Desmond Elliot, who is currently a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Another actor, Yul Edochie, also contested for and lost the gubernatorial seat in Anambra State. A veteran, he rose to fame after starring in the Nollywood blockbuster movie “Living in Bondage” in 1991.
