INCREASING TRADE DEVELOPMENT IN SA
Registration with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) rests, inter alia, upon the accreditation of a higher education provider and its education programmes by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), the SAQA-mandated quality assurance body for the higher education sector in South Africa. SAQA is the South African Qualifications Authority, the custodian of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). ITRISA currently has three qualifications registered on the NQF at levels 5 and 6. (Refer to Distance Learning Programme).
In addition to its accreditation by the Council on Higher Education and registration with the Department of Higher Education and Training in South Africa, ITRISA’s two-year qualification.
North-West University uses ITRISA’s first and second-year distance learning material as the prescribed texts for a number of subjects (International Trade Relations, International Trade Finance & Payments, Applied International Trade Communications, International Monetary Relations, International Trade Law, International Cargo Movement, Export Marketing Development and Export Administration) in its B Com, and B Com Hons: International Trade programmes.
ITRISA’s international trade expertise is also recognised by industry bodies such as the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF) which has used the Institute inter alia to map local forwarding and customs training programmes against their international counterparts, i.e. the programmes of the International Association of Freight Forwarders (FIATA), and to moderate research reports submitted to SAAFF for FIATA qualification purposes.
National, provincial and local government departments, e.g. the dti and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism; trade and investment agencies such as GGDA, Wesgro and TIKZN; and municipal economic development agencies, such as the Tshwane Economic Development Agency (TEDA), regularly approach ITRISA to provide international trade research, training or to collaborate in projects of various kinds.
The Institute is represented on the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Technical Committee TC1040/SC 01 responsible for the standards pertaining to commercial wildlife and the export thereof. SABS is affiliated with the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
ITRISA has also conducted international trade-related training programmes on behalf of chambers of commerce and banks for their respective members/clients, is often asked by industry experts to facilitate training events and has been invited to partner with a number of associate training providers.
