The Department of Transport is committed to youth skills development by providing graduates with opportunities to gain workplace experience to complement their studies. Applications are invited for the fifty-three (69) internship positions for promising graduates between the ages of 18 and 35. The internship programme will run for a period of twelve (12) months. The 49 positions are based in Pretoria and 20 internship positions will be placed in participating Municipalities across various provinces.
The Department of transport is in charge of the guideline for Transport in Southern Africa. This includes civil aviation, public transport, rail transportation and shipping of all freight and motor vehicles. They are a transport infrastructure that remains crucial to alleviating poverty, generating economic growth, reducing inequality and international competitiveness.
Their division engages with employers in both the community and private sectors, as well as with (Setas) to institutionalize work integration and promote learning. The objectives that they aim to achieve in regulation are implementation and providing a policy framework which is to reduce time in transportation, safety, security improvements, improve access, completive transport costs, reduce infrastructures and extend the work of the old industry training boards.
They mainly focus on a structured place of work, including education and promoting partnerships between training institutions and employers. The workplace is generally more effective if on-the-job training is combined with academic study or training is given right away after studies are completed. This increases a student’s chances of finding appropriate employment.

Department of Transport Internships Available
This Government Department offers a range of internships yearly to talented, young individuals. Most of their internships range from 12 months to 2 or 3 years, depending on the field. Candidates are required to have the needed educational level for their application to qualify. The department offers successful candidates a monthly allowance, but each candidate will be responsible for their own accommodation, meals, and transport.

Department of Transport Internships Requirements
Applicants must be South African citizens, hold a valid ID document and be between the ages of 18 and 35 to be eligible. Candidates are urged to apply within their region or area of living. Candidates from a historically disadvantaged background will be given preference.
Candidates must also adhere to the following requirements:
- Candidates must not be employed
- Candidates must be computer literate
- Candidates must hold a valid Matric certification
- Candidates must hold a degree or diploma within their field of application
- Candidates must not have been in any other Government internship programs prior to their application
- Candidates must show a willingness to learn
- Candidates must have a passion and drive for their field of application
All documentation will be verified. Therefore, candidates must also ensure there are no outstanding fees to any Educational Institute as it may prevent their verification from being successful.

Candidates must please clearly indicate the internship they are applying for, as well as the area, town or city.
Candidates are reminded to complete the form in full, it must be legible and signed. All documentation must be certified and also attached to the application. Ensure your contact details, references and qualifications are up-to-date on your curriculum vitae. A signed and certified letter of unemployment from the Commissioner of Oaths must accompany your application as well. This letter must also state that you have not previously been part of a similar internship and what your interest in this field is.
The Department will verify all qualifications and documentation. Candidates must ensure they have their own accommodation and transport. It is, therefore, recommended to apply within the area you live. Candidates can submit all their documentation with the application to the nearest Department of Transport office in their area.
Department of Transport Internships Closing Dates
The closing date for internship applications will vary in accordance with the position and area within the department. Most of the internships provided by this department usually close during September and October, to allow internships to begin with the start of the following year. If you have not heard anything within 30 to 45 days after the closing of the applications, you can assume the application was unsuccessful.
