Department of Finance Graduate Internships | Are you completing your studies in finance, banking, accounting, law or any other field that is related to the banking and treasury industry?
This Government department offers talented candidates the opportunity to learn more about their career field and gain valuable knowledge. The National Treasury Department of South Africa aims to promote prosperity and growth for the country. They are accountable for the country’s finances, policies and more.
Every year they offer a number of internships for gifted young individuals within many career fields. People from disadvantaged backgrounds or with disabilities are always welcome to apply, as well as unemployed graduates from all parts of the country. The internships provided are usually only for a 12-month time frame.

Most internship programs will be for a duration of 12 months and selected applicants will also receive a monthly stipend. Candidates will, however, be responsible for their own accommodation, meals and transport.
Department of Finance Graduate Internships Requirements
The Department of Finance accepts applications yearly for a variety of positions. Candidates will have to meet all stipulations as set out by the department to be eligible for the internship program. Some of these requirements may vary slightly from department to department but here are some of the main requirements.
Candidates will be required to have the following:
- Candidates must be South African citizens between 18 & 35
- Applicants must not have been part of any other Government internship prior to their application
- Candidates must hold a valid ID book/card and have a valid Matric certification
- Applicants must hold a diploma or degree from a recognized institute of higher learning within their field of application
- Candidates must be computer literate
- Applicants must be proficient in English (read, write & speak)
- Candidates must not hold any kind of criminal record
Candidates must please ensure all documentation is certified and copies are attached to their application. Applications must be made with a Z83 application form. This form can be downloaded from the Government website or collected from any Government office. Please ensure the number of the position applying for is clearly stated on the application. If submitting multiple applications for different positions, an application must be done for each post and submitted separately with a complete C.V. and all documentation.

Department of Finance internships online application process is made available during the year on the National Treasury Department website. Candidates can also apply with the different provinces on their individual websites. Some of the provinces do not have an online application process and will supply directions on how to submit your application on their website.

Candidates must ensure that all documentation is certified and attached to the application. All information supplied must be up-to-date and accurate. Any late applications, incomplete applications or applications missing documentation will not be considered.
Department of Finance Internships Closing Dates
Closing dates for each province’s Department may vary slightly. Most of the internships provided by this Government Department are only open during April or May each year for the next year’s intake. Most of the internships provided by this Department will be for a 12 months period. Only candidates who make it to the shortlist will be contacted, thus, if you do not receive any correspondence within three months after the closing date, candidates may accept that their application did not make the cut.
