ABOUT THE COMPANY – BOSTON MEDIA HOUSE & YFM

Boston Media House was formed with the goal of providing the best opportunity for students to study and qualify for a career in the media and design industry. The private higher education institution is registered with the ​Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in South Africa and has 3 campuses, located in Sandton, Pretoria and Durban.

YFM is a youth-focused radio station in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the Y in its name meaning precisely “Youth”. The station was established in 1997 and has an Urban Contemporary format, with the majority of its airtime made up of urban music genres, including Hip Hop, R&B, Kwaito. The rest of the station’s line-up is made up of talk shows, mainly focused on entertainment and a little bit of the latest news and interactive competitions.

ABOUT THE BOSTON MEDIA HOUSE & YFM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Boston Media House and YFM are inviting students to apply for 2 types of scholarships, for the 2022 academic year, for studies at Boston Media House in Sandton.

Students can choose to apply for either of the following scholarships (also known as “Awards of Excellence”):

  • Scholarship 1: Diploma in Media Practices at Boston Media House (3 Years full-time), to the value of R180 000, or
  • Scholarship 2: Soul Candi digital composition and production (short course), to the value of R30 000.

The Boston Media House Scholarships are valued at R180 000 (for Diploma studies) and R30 000 (for the Soul Candi course).

The scholarship will NOT provide cover for these expenses: registration fees, external fees, travel costs and stationery expenses. It also does NOT cover any existing/ outstanding student debt or fees at Boston City Campus or Boston Media House.
The scholarship will selection process will include:
Media Studies Diploma Scholarship:

  • YFM producers will assess all entries and select the Top 10 candidates with the highest Matric results and with articulate radio links.
  • YFM and Boston Media House’s panel of judges will assess these Top 10 candidates and thereafter 1 winner will be selected.
  • The winner will be announced on 8 February 2022, on YFM’s The Lady on Drive with Khutso Theledi (between 15:00 and 18:00).

Soul Candi digital composition and production Scholarship:

  • YFM producers will assess all entries and select the Top 3 candidates with the best music mix.
  • Boston Media House’s panel of judges will assess these Top 3 candidates and thereafter 1 winner will be selected.
  • The winner will be announced on 11 February 2022, on YFM’s YTKO DJ Candii show, after her YTKO mix (between 18:00 and 19:00).

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BOSTON MEDIA HOUSE & YFM SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must have completed Matric in 2021
  • You must be interested in studying towards a Media or Music qualification
  • You must intend on studying at Boston Media House, in Sandton, in 2022
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must NOT be a director of Yired (Pty) Ltd, Boston Media House, an employee at YFM, Boston Media House and/or their agencies, and not an immediate family member

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BOSTON MEDIA HOUSE & YFM SCHOLARSHIP

Applications must be submitted online at Boston Media House and YFM Scholarship Application 2022

Note: there are 2 application forms – 1 for each of the scholarships stated above, please ensure that you apply for the correct scholarship.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
Media Studies Diploma Scholarship:

  • Matric certificate (maximum file size of 5MB, in either of these formats: pdf, jpg or png)
  • URL to your recorded radio link (on Google Drive, WeTransfer or similar platform)
  • A motivation letter stating why do you deserve to be awarded the scholarship

Soul Candi digital composition and production Scholarship:

  • Matric certificate (maximum file size of 5MB, in either of these formats: pdf, jpg or png)
  • URL to your recorded music mix (on Google Drive, WeTransfer or similar platform)
  • A motivation letter stating why do you deserve to be awarded the scholarship

Note: all applicants under 18 years old, must obtain consent from their parent’s or guardians before entering the competition.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE BOSTON MEDIA HOUSE & YFM SCHOLARSHIP

  • All applicants consent to YFM sharing their personal information (on the application) with Boston Media House.
  • The Boston Award of Excellence (Scholarship) competition will start on 18 January 2022, finish on 6 February 2022 and will run on YFM.
  • The scholarship awards are not redeemable for cash and cannot be transferable to a third party.
  • If candidates do not perform well academically or if they fail a module, they will be required to repeat the module at their own expense.
  • The scholarship will be awarded after the selected candidate submits a copy of the Awards of Excellence award letter (issued by Boston Media House) and a copy of their ID Document or Driver’s License at the time of registration.
