Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya’s Biography
Doctor Daniel Kolawole Olukoya aka D.K. Olukoya or DKO for short, is a Nigerian Pastor, Author, Televangelist, Scientist, Sport (football) lover and founder of Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) which he founded in 1989.
Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya was born about six decades ago in the ancient city Akure in Ondo, South-West Nigeria, his father was personnel of Nigerian Police Force, NPF and his mother, a trader. He had his early education at Saint John’s CAC Primary School, Akure but concluded it at Saint Jude’s Primary School, Ebute Metta, Lagos where the young Daniel Kolawole was labelled an exceptional child.
D.K. Olukoya had his high school education at Methodist Boys’ High School, Lagos, where he graduated with Grade One Distinction and was the best student in his set. In 1976 he gained admission into the prestigious University of Lagos, Unilag, were graduated from in 1980 with a first-class degree in Microbiology, the first and only from the department since the university was established 55 years ago.
The passionate football lover then proceeded on a Commonwealth scholarship to the University of Reading, United Kingdom (UK) for his Doctorate degree in molecular genetics which he completed in record time, making him arguably the first Nigerian to obtain a PhD in molecular genetics.
On his return to Nigeria, he was offered a juicy job at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos where he worked as a senior geneticist. He is said to have written more than 70 scientific papers before establishing the ‘Daniel and Fola Biotechnology Foundation’, a registered NGO, to train Nigerian citizens in molecular biology and biotechnology. Olukoya is believed to be the first scientist to establish an indigenous Molecular Biology and Biotechnology laboratory in Nigeria. He was also a lecturer as well as external examiner to a number of Nigerian universities including the University of Lagos, UNILAG and the University of Benin, UNIBEN.
Dr Olukoya’s contribution to biotechnology and health care delivery in Nigeria was best appreciated after the discovery of a new type of Pap (Ogi), named Dogik, a weaning food that has improved nutritional qualities that can control diarrhea. The laboratory also ranks among the first to done genes in the West African nation.
Dr Olukoya is married to his wife, Pastor Folashade Olukoya and is blessed with a son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya.
HOW MOUNTAIN OF FIRE MIRACLE MINISTRY STARTED
On a Wednesday in 1989, while still working at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, NIMR, Olukoya was said to have organized a prayer meeting which held in his living room with over 2 dozens in attendance. After that meeting, he kept calling for subsequent meetings. At these meetings, the power of God came down and verifiable miracles began to happen in the lives of the attendees. People kept coming thus, a larger venue became inevitable, thus the prayer meetings moved to 60 Old Yaba Road, Yaba, Lagos and later to 13 Olasimbo Street, Onike, Yaba, by the second gate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, the International Headquarters of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM.
How Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM came about
The name “Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries,” according to Dr Olukoya, was revealed to him during an intense prayer session. MFM had its first service on Sunday, 24 April 1994.
MFM is one of the fastest-growing churches with several branches in all Nigerian states. It’s International church branches first started in London, England before spreading to all continents of the world including North America (United States, Canada), Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
Dr Olukoya, whose aim is to see God’s people set free from all bondages that prevents them from attaining their God-given destiny, has written so many powerful Spiritual books “Prayer Rain”.
MISSION AND VISION OF MOUNTAIN OF FIRE MIRACLE MINISTRY, MFM
- To propagate the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ all over the world
- To promote the revival of Apostolic signs, wonders and miracles
- To bring together children of God who are lost in dead churches
- To train believers in the art and science of spiritual warfare; thus making them an aggressive and victorious army for the Lord.
- To train believers to receive Holy Ghost baptism and fire as well as a daily walk and relationship with the Holy Spirit.
- To turn the joy of our enemies to sorrow. That is why we would always have a Deliverance ministry wherever we are. If you do not believe in deliverance, you are not supposed to be in MFM
- To build an aggressive end-time army for the Lord. MFM is an end-time church where we build an aggressive end-time army for the Lord.
- To deliver those who have become slaves to pastors, prophets and apostles
- To build up heavenly-bound and aggressive Christians. The priority in MFM is for people to make heaven. It is not a worldly Church.

DR. D.K OLUKOYA OPENS UP ON HIS PASSION FOR FOOTBALL
The gifted man of God, in an interview, opened up on his passion for football and athletics saying … “I grew up like every normal child and did participate in sporting activities. My father was a policeman and I was in charge of the footballer’s kits at the Adekunle Police barracks because I played football as an outside right, today’s No 7, and I also did athletics.
“I supported Stationery Stores of Lagos, the darling club of Lagosians; it was the club to follow then because Stores had great players like Haruna Ilerika, Peter Aneke, Baba Ali, and many others. I have two (all-time favourite footballers) one is alive while the other is dead. The late Thunder Balogun was my favourite Nigerian footballer, he was very good. Then Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, aka Pele, he’s one of the best footballers ever born.
On MFM Football Club or MFM FC
“Running a football club (MFM FC) is part of our 70-point agenda in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, which is to reposition the youths of this country and generation for Christ Jesus, using sport as a veritable tool. We all know the power of sports in the world and so we are taking advantage of the power of football and other sports to win souls into God’s kingdom. We are not using only football; there are other sports like athletics, basketball and table tennis. The motivation is following God’s instruction to rescue youths of this generation from the grip of Satan. This is a very serious issue that has to be addressed as quickly as possible. It’s God’s mandate for us at the MFM and there’s no going back and He’s helping us.
“Sports is just one of the 70-point agenda. We are engaging the youths in profitable ventures which are geared towards making them have the fear of God and become better leaders of Nigeria. Youths must be taught God’s ways and this can only be done inside the church and not outside of it. We also found out that with a football in one hand and a bible in the other, the battle to save our youths from destroying themselves will be easy to accomplish. So, if it’s a ploy, using your word, it is working for us in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries with the founding of a football club.”
On Vision for MFM FC
“MFM FC must become a model club side and a reference point for other football clubs in Nigeria and beyond; a club of champions that upholds the cardinal rule of playing fair always. MFM FC has to be a club where players will experience positive changes in their football careers; an ideal football club that is made up of God-fearing youths who will excel in their chosen careers and become instruments that will eradicate poverty in their lineage and change their family fortunes through football.”
On his growing up

The key to success is planning and working towards set targets. We’ve been to the World Cup four times before and this will be our fifth, have we found out the mistakes we made that stopped us in our previous appearances? If yes, are we working towards ensuring that the same mistakes are not made in Brazil? Again, are we putting God first in all we do? Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents and if well harnessed, I really can’t see any other country stopping us. Let’s do our best and commit the rest into God’s hands.
“We were very proud that someone from MFM played a great role in winning the FIFA under 17 World Cup for Nigeria. It was a great achievement for Nduka Ugbade who had won the same trophy for Nigeria as captain in 1985, the first black African to achieve that feat. Nduka is a very dedicated young man, his likes are hard to find. So, we gave him a car as our own little way of telling him how much we appreciate him. “
ON WHY HE DOESN’T PREDICT MATCH RESULTS
“MFM is a praying church; we pray and God answers our prayers. It’s our duty to pray for the success of all that concerns Nigeria. We should be very careful not to trivialise the prophetic ministry. Nigeria will always win if we put God first and prepare very well ahead of competitions.
ON PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN ATHLETICS FEDERATION OF NIGERIA AND MFM
“It’s a privilege for MFM to partner with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, led by Evangelist Solomon Ogba, in discovering and nurturing Nigeria’s talents. God mandated MFM to reposition Nigerian youths for Christ Jesus, and sport is one of the many ways to achieving this. We agreed to sponsor the yearly Dr D. K. Olukoya National U-18 Athletics competition when we were approached by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria some years back, and to the glory of God, I learnt that the event has produced many athletes our beloved nation and we are very happy about this.
